Our Contribution
We undertook a comprehensive review of all existing utility infrastructure on and around the site, assessing the capacity of the existing and provided a gap analysis for new utility connections to support the proposed 600 student units and 71 affordable homes. This included:
- Power
Analysis of existing substations and high-voltage networks, identifying cost-effective strategies for new substation placement along Pocock Street. - Communications
Reviewing local providers to ensure future-proofed connectivity for residents. - Water & Foul Drainage
Assessing existing mains capacity, exploring connection options, and preparing for coordination with the local water company. - Gas
In line with Future Homes Standards, confirming a fully electric strategy and coordinating the safe removal of legacy gas connections.

Our early-stage assessment provided the client and design team with:

- Calculation of the required utility demand by the new buildings.
- Strategic options for connection points and substation locations.
- Budget estimates to inform feasibility and design decisions.
